About

This blog has been around some 12 years. I am a newly retired nearly-61-year-old West Seattle resident and proud advocate for public school educators. I am lucky enough to be partnered with a lovely husband. We produced two sons more than 25 years ago. They have both managed to find smart and beautiful partners. We also have a dog.

  1. Eddie,
I just got back in town last night and was forwarded your blog from Shannon. I’m writing you to let you know that I am thinking about you, and this journey that is definitely making this a very crummy April. I’ve been through these biopsies and scares myself, and have seen a very close friend go through it all.(with a very positive outcome) I’m thinking about your humor and tough exterior, and hoping it was as real as I assumed. Even if it wasn’t, so what! Even at what seems the lowest and scariest moments, your strength and humor and wonderful family will be there to carry you. I send all my positive vibes from Vashon in the hope that this little bit will help to carry you as well.
    With encouragement,
    Sam

  3. Dear Eddie and family,

My prayers are with you. I know how hard one gets hit in the heart when they are told they have cancer. I have went through two operations and understand completely how you feel.. All will be well. I know your main concern is you family. When you feel better please phone, if not I understand.

  4. Hi Eddie, Marty gave me an update on life with the Westermans. Know that I am thinking of you and family and sending lots of love. Marsha

  5. Dear Edna-

Elyssa told me your unfortunate news and gave me the link to the blog. I hope you are feeling well but it is just so Edna for you to have a blog so we can all know how you are doing. My Mother had breast cancer 16 years ago when I was pregnant with Sarah but is healthy and still working full time. My sister in law runs the link program for a wonderful organization call Shasharet which provides support for women with cancer. She links people up from all over the country with a “buddy” who is going through the same thing but is not part of your daily like. Give her a call Shera Dubitsky at (866)474-2774 http://www.sharsheret.org.
    Feel good-
    Lots and lots of love
    Jill Dubitsky Katz

  6. Hi Jill,
What a treat to hear from you. I would love to get a sharsheret (necklace) buddy. I will check in with her soon. Stay in touch when you feel like it. Would love to get some of that hilarious Dubitsky/Katz humor…I am looking for irreverence. See Mother’s Day posts and you’ll get where I am going.

  7. Eddie, I had lunch with Cathy Dunton today and later she forwarded your web blog. What a labor of love. It is really amazing. But then, you have always been an amazing woman. I go to a group on Wed nights run by a man who does energetic healing. Many people in the group are healers in their own right. I hope it will be ok with you if I send some healing light your way. One of the woman in the group went thru the same thing you are last year. When her hair started to grow out she got red hair extensions She’s been having lots of fun with her new look. Wish I had a humerous joke or story to pass on but I always forget the punchline. Love yourself in evrey moment, in every way possible. Love Judy

  8. dear miss eddie, you have always amazed me- incredible mom and wife, wonderful friend, encouraging (with that amazing humor!) classmate, generous community member, beautiful person- you’re an inspiration!! you and your boys were such a huge help to me, please let me know how my boy and i can help you from across the miles. with much love, dayna and charley klein

  9. Eddie, there I was blathering with your sweet Marty today about the Build Green rating on the house (congrats!) when he mentioned for the first time your recent challenges. While worried, I could immediately “see” you and guessed, correctly as it turns out, that you would approach this with homor, grit, and a whoppin’ case of reality. I have read throughout your blog tonight your journey and am sending you good thoughts and continued energy. Marty asked if I’d come for a final tour of the house and am so looking forward to that and seeing you! XOXOX Elizabeth

  10. Hi, Eddie. It was a surprise and a treat to see you twice this week, and to catch up a little bit.
Malia’s last games are Tuesday at the SWAC complex and Wednesday at Riverview, both at 3:30, and then maybe the Metro tournament starting May 10th?
You and your family look great.

    Tamra
