Thanks to all who are donating to our Race For the Cure

I have been away from this blog for too long. I have been busy with our annual delegate assembly, or RA (Representative Assembly). It was in Spokane last week and it is always exhausting and energizing to spend time with 1,000 teachers and other school employees as they set policy for us for the upcoming year.
The tone was somber as our members are experiencing layoffs to the tune of some 3,000 (I think) so far.
Meanwhile, Adam and I are hard at work trying to meet our goal to raise money for the Susan G. Komen race. it is going to take more people as people have less money to donate this year. Still, we have many more people to ask. We have only asked one grandparent so far and he gave a bunch so we are going to ask all other grandparents, relatives, friends, and so on. Chris Knapp, who is coming in from Germany, sponsored Adam, but is also walking with us that day. If you are interested in joining our team which is called Pledges for EDJS (Eddie, Dottie, Joanie and Susan), go to the Susan G. Komen Puget Sound Race for the Cure page and sign up to join us.
If you want to donate, please, please donate to Adam or to me. He needs it more this year as he is the Grand Marshall and he raised $2200 last year…this year he is just over a thousand so far (thanks again to all including Jackson and Jeremy, Saba and Carmen, Larry and Karen Konick –wow…thanks for all).
I am thinking I only have four or five herceptin treatments left then (in August) I will get my port out. Dottie’s friend died suddenly yesterday. She had breast cancer and was a four-year survivor. Sadly, the chemo gave her blood cancer. She was preparing for a bone marrow transplant and was taking oral chemo at home just before she was supposed to go in for her bone marrow transplant. She got a little infection, but had no immune system and it took her quickly. Dottie’s community is in shock and very sad. I feel for them. Those of us who are survivors are always shaken up when someone dies as it reminds us that cancer is evil and a killer. So, enough of that. Talk to you all soon.

PS: I made reservations today to join Max on the Seattle/New York leg of his Israel trip. We’ll wave good-bye to him then see a couple of shows (Billy Elliott? In the Heights?) then visit NY, NJ, MA….more later.
